This typical single-storey red brick house has been transformed into a beautifully contemporary family home which bears little resemblance to its former self. Working to architect’s plans, Cutting Edge Building constructed a new first-storey and lower ground floor, as well as overhauling the existing entrance level, significantly increasing living space. The turnaround time: just six months from start to finish.
The current owners had been renting out the property for a number of years, but had never actually lived there themselves. With two children in their teens, they wanted a family home for years to come with plenty of space for independent living and entertainment. A local architect worked on plans custom-designed to their brief and Cutting Edge Building stepped in to carry out the all-important building work.
It all started with demolition: the roof was removed and walls knocked down to make way for the new structure. A first storey was added to accommodate the parents’ retreat, comprising self-contained bedroom, bathroom and office. The original entrance level was transformed into a spacious open-plan living area with a sleek new kitchen. A new lower-ground floor was also put in, allowing for two garages, a generous rumpus/billiard room, laundry and storage facility. To complete the modern look, a luxury swimming pool and spa area were installed in the garden, spilling out from the rumpus.
Cutting Edge Building worked with the architectural plans down to the smallest detail. Positioned on a corner block, there has been an emphasis on ensuring the harmonious appearance of the property from both streets. Windows which can be adjusted for optimal airflow have been installed throughout. The roof has also been cleverly angled to allow the family and their guests the opportunity to take in fabulous views out to Pittwater without overheating in the summer sun.
